Within your chart, you will see some sectors have one or several planets in them while others will be empty. Because there are eight planets plus the Sun and Moon and twelve sectors, it is easy to see there are more houses than there are planets.

Planets are on the move constantly

While many people will have empty houses in their chart, it’s important to remember that planets are on the move constantly and a sector that sits empty one day could find itself occupied the next. This also partly explains why two people born on the same day or within a day of each other can be very different.

The First House in a horoscope chart

The First House represents all that makes you unique; your appearance, personality, ambitions and priorities. It also represents ego, the things you do naturally, how you are seen by others, your energy and deepest desires. It is also where your deepest secrets are stored and is, therefore, the most difficult to interpret. The First House also reveals your Ascendant or ‘Rising Sign,’ the sign ‘rising’ on the horizon at the time of your birth.

Your Ascendant represents what you express naturally, your exterior personality and the face you show the rest of the world.
